ESSDACK PreK-12 Assessment and Learning Conference: Add to Your Playbook will be of interest to PreK-12 educators in the areas of state assessments, research-based strategies, and career education. In addition to gaining ideas, attendees will take home resources to use in the classroom. There will be a wide variety of sessions from which participants can choose. To incorporate attendees’ ideas and answer burning questions, there will be round table discussions throughout the day.

This day-long conference offers many choices:
Of general interest to all levels and all disciplines will be a session on differentiated learning. Differentiated Instruction is an instructional concept that maximizes learning for ALL students – regardless of skill level or background. Attendees will learn how it might be implemented in a classroom and gain resources to help teachers differentiate lessons.
Another session of general interest will center on Career Tech Education. Business and industry is teaming up with schools to begin working with students in their areas of individual interest to make coursework relevant to future careers. Ann Benson, who has worked with high school, adult, and business/industry Career Tech programs for 14 years, will present “The New Career Tech – Using Career Clusters to Help All Students Achieve Success.”
Breakout sessions will be broken into grade level and content areas. The math will include technology techniques, a free on-line program to improve math test scores by monitoring student performance, and practical math classroom strategies for all ages. Language arts integration strategies will be presented, including literature and writing. Other breakout topics will include classroom strategies for technology integration into content areas, problem-based learning, and work station resources.
Sessions on state assessments will concentrate on information and format of state assessments for social studies, science, reading, writing, and math by grade level.
An informational breakout session on field trip possibilities will include presentations promoting several Hutchinson-area attractions.
