Long Bio

Katie describes her educational career path as the most exciting journey she never expected to take. A pre-law major, Katie decided to go apply to the School of Education at The University of Kansas after working for a year as a special education paraeducator. Since graduating from KU, Katie has taught nearly every grade level K-6 in Tennessee, Texas, and Kansas. In 2014, Katie was selected as the Region One Elementary Kansas Teacher of the Year. During her travels as a member of the KTOY team, Katie’s passion for helping other teachers was sparked. The following year Katie left the classroom to serve as an instructional coach for a year before obtaining her dream job as an education consultant. In 2016, Katie earned her Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from Fort Hays State University, with endorsements in reading and building administration.

Specializing in K-8 science, Katie is committed to helping teachers implement hands-on science instruction into their daily schedule. Katie has experience writing science curriculum, and is in the process of authoring a K-5 curriculum to support the Next Generation Science Standards. This love of science led Katie to her interest in Project Based Learning while she was still in the classroom, an area she has continued to explore as a consultant. Katie’s other specialty areas include Digital Citizenship, Student/Teacher Creativity, and general elementary instruction. Katie says that being an educator is as much a part of her identity as being a wife, mother, or daughter. As an education consultant it is her goal to share her passion with other teachers to help inspire impassioned teaching and learning in classrooms everywhere.
